osevelt is very comfortable in his wheel now! He runs right over to the cart and tries to put himself in it as soon as he sees it come out. He's going on walks now too, and also mastering all sorts of different terrains, hill, and is very talented at maneuvering around various obstacles he encounters. He's going up on the website as soon as our webmaster has a chance and we will be taking applications on him. Boy, are we going to miss him! What a great little dog he is.

Happy news!
After 17 months in rescue, I finally have a forever home!!! And not just any home! I got myself the perfect home!!! Yup, that's right... it's all mine, I don't have to share it with anyone! And listen to this! It comes with a personal ball thrower, a personal ear scritcher, a personal walker and I even have my own fully fenced in yard to run in AND a piece of creek to cool down in on a sunny summer day! Life does not get any better!

Roosevelt's big day
Roosevelt had a big day today. We left home at 11am and went to visit our friends at Eddie's Wheels for Pets for a 1pm appointment. They evaluated the fit of his cart and made some adjustments. It has not been lowered so that he should be able to pick toys up from the ground and drink out of a bowl that isn't elevated. He'll need to learn to do that, since it involves stretching his hind legs in a different way. We know he'll catch on quick, though. he folks at Eddie's Whee's took a little video of him zooming around chasing Arthur, which they posted on their facebook page. After leaving Eddie's Wheels, we drive another hour to consult with an orthopedic surgeon about Roosevelt's twisted front leg. We wondered if there was anything that might be able to be done to make it more usable for him. After examining the leg, the doctor felt that Roosevelt's radius was not developed, and the only bone he had that was usable in that portion of his leg was the ulna. His thoughts were confirmed by taking an x-ray. Normally, the radius would bear 80 percent of the weight. So the smaller ulna had grown a bit larger than normal to try and compensate, apparently. We discussed possibly surgical fixes, the chances of success and the pros and cons. Basically, they could cut the end of the bone, and fasten his wrist to the end of his ulna, using an exterior fixture to hold it in place for the healing process, which would take 8-12 weeks. If everything were to go perfectly, there was only a 50% chance of success, and a 50% chance that the limb would be made more painful. And the risk that things wouldn't go perfectly reduced the odds of a successful outcome.
Roosevelt is doing phenomenally in his cart, as you can see in the video above (or previous videos posted here if you can't see that one.) His quality of live is very high, he is a very happy guy, and his leg does not seem to bother him the way it is. Therefore, we don't think it's worth the risks associated to try and change it. We will of course continue to monitor him, as his future adopters will need to do, and reassess if some type of problem developed in the future. However, we really don't anticipate that!
So, the next step is to finish up his routine medical needs such as neutering and microchip (we have been holding off in case he was going to need to be put under for radiographs and the like.) Then we find his perfect family and he goes on to his forever home. He is such an amazing and delightful dog, we are going to be heartbroken to see him go!

I am ready!
... for what you may ask? For my new family! I do have some.... um , what do they call it... yeah, those E-L-G-i-B-i-l-Y-T-i-t-i requirements. Ugh, spelling is so hard. Anywayz, herez a list of what you need to have before i even look at your applikation. One, you need to have toyz. Two, you need to have a lap. Three, your hands need to be available at all timez to provide belly rubs and scritches for ME! And to throw toyz for ME. And hand out yummi treatz to ME. In exchange, I am offerink sloppy kisses, ball katching servicez and that... enthuziazm... yeah, I have some of thatz to offer. Herez me:

Introducing Floyd
Hey There, Floyd here...
I just wanted to give you some updates about me.
First I have lost 7lbs since being in foster care. Boy do I look Goooood!!!!!!!
I had my teeth re-checked by the vet.
He said I can start to eat crunchy food now. Yeah
I also now play with one of my foster brothers, Cisco. My foster mom tried to get a video but Cisco and I don't like the camera. Every time we see one we stop what we are doing. (sorry)
This doesn't really have anything to do with anything but I needed to tell you.
If you go for a car ride and the window goes down, fresh air blows in your face. It is so cool. No one ever did that for me before.
The coolest thing is that on Saturday my foster mom and dad took me to a place called Black Rock State Park. I had no idea what a State Park was but I do now.
I spend most of my time here sniffing the ground. Do you know how many dogs get to come to this place? A lot!
My foster mom hooked a long leash to her belt and off we went. We walked on a path for a while and then we walked in the snow. We walked by some water, through trees and I got to smell so many trees. We walked around for about an hour. Then Mom said that was enough. I wanted to go longer but mom said not to much the first time.
That’s it for now, but I'll let you know when I get to do something else for the first time.
Speaking of first times, I am still looking for a place to call my own and have someone really love me and make me part of their family.... for the first time.
