Eli: New pics and tricks

Hi, it's Eli.

Just wanted to update my fans on some of my newest tricks!

First, there's this one where I lean my head back and I turn into a bat:

  • Hmm....what else can I do....
-Go around between my crate and the wall to hide toys for myself to find later.
-Stick my head into the shower for a little drink (or the toilet, whichever seems yummier at the time).
-Chew on an antler WHILE my foster brother, Scout holds onto it for me.

-I have also started following my foster mom around the house and sitting, wagging my tail hard and staring up at her for pets. I really like snuggling my head next to a person's head. Or I start falling asleep if the person pets/holds my head.
Like this:
(sorry about the lighting, we're in my favorite spot, the bathroom)

Yes, some have said that I have mellowed a bunch since my 'boy' operation, and since settling into my foster home. I'm a very sensitive soul. And even though I'm a puppy, if you give me a soft place to lay and a chewy, I'm good for awhile. I love every person I meet, I don't bark at people and I like to play, follow my person around and snuggle. I also am learning to like car riding!

I think those are some really good tricks, don't you?

Really people, how can you resist a face like this?

Love, Eli the giant puppy with the soft soul

I'm one of the smartest puppies I know!

Hi, it's Scout! My foster mom had another snowday off from school, so I got to try eating my breakfast out of this orange ball for the first time. I had to use my nose, my paws and my problem solving skills to get the kibble instead of just chowing it out of a bowl. Watch me!

I needed a nap after all that thinking! Are you looking for a smart, fun, athletic puppy? If so, that's me! -Scout

Roosevelt Gets His Wheels!

Today Roosevelt got his cart!!  We would like to say a huge THANK YOU!!! to the anonymous donor who called and paid for his cart.  Your generosity is overwhelming.  Thank you.

A front wheel cart is a greater adjustment for a dog than a rear wheel cart, but Roosevelt really did awesome!  He's a little afraid of the cart when he has to be put into it, but this will shortly pass, as he understands the freedom it brings him.  He will soon learn how to relax into the cart and allow it to support him while he walks along. He's already had another session in the cart just now, and he did even better.  We'll be sure and put updates as he figures it out.

Thanks to everyone for their support!  Here's the video:

ps - Roosevelt was supposed to have a consult with an orthopedic surgeon this week to see if anything can be done to help his left leg, but the snowstorm interfered, so we will be rescheduling that.

Cricket Speaks

Hey there! My name is Cricket! OK, so I'm not a full Border Collie but my mother is :-)

We used to live on a farm and had lots of fun chasing the animals. It turns out they didn't like that. Who knew??? Anyway, that's why we ended up in a shelter. It was very scary there. The people were very nice to us but we just couldn't help being so very afraid.

Then the NEBCR people came to see us. One of them took my mother home to live with her forever and ever. I have to wait in a foster home for my forever family to come along. But that's OK as long as it doesn't take too long. Oh yeah, in case you are wondering, I am eleven months old and weigh twenty-two pounds.

I am a new rescue pup, soon to be featured on NEBCR's website.

Here I am wrestling with my friend, Eli. He's also ready to be adopted. We're best buds.

Are you looking for your new pup? Maybe it's me!

Happy Valentine's Day from Chip!

Hi everyone!
It's me Chip here! And it's the Valentine's Day so I thought it was appropriate to bring up matters of the heart here. You see, just recently, my heart contained two things -- love and worms! But after a slow recovery at aunt Mo's house, all worms are gone. I didn't see them walk away, but the dog doc said they are gone and I like to believe her. After all, who likes to have worms in their hearts. Ewwwwww! Anywayz, I am worm free and so now I can run and romp and play again!

And listen to this! I have a new foster home to share my love with!!! And it's the bestest!!! Just imagine, I now live in a place called Vermont and I have my foster mom and dad all to myself! That means extra snuggles, extra belly rubs and most importantly, extra ball throws! The only thing missing is a forever home, but I bet there is one out there somewhere!

Anyhow, I've been keeping myself mightly busy. You see, I got myself a new job. My job is to teach my foster parents all about border collies. They have never lived with a border collie before, and so I have to explain them the basic border collie rules like "toys are more important than food" and "its easy to forget to pee when you are playing a ball" and "there is never enough dog toys in your lap at any one time". Teaching humans is hard work, let me tell ya!

After all the hard work, I needed a little vacation, so I decided to take the V day off and visit my friends Mollie and Murphy in New York. And it's been quite the adventure, let me tell you. Especially today. We woke up early and then we dogs got to go in the car while uncle Eric put these funny looking throwing sticks on the roof. They call them skis. And off we went to do this funny thing called skiing. I really liked it. At first I thought the sticks were for throwing but it turns out, the crazy humans put them on their feetz so they can slide better. Anyways, here I am skiing.

I think I am doing a better job than uncle Eric, don't you think? I tried to tell him that it would help if he took the funny looking sticks off his feetz but he wouldn't listen. Anyways, they said I did really well. The only time I started pulling to the side was when the other dogs that came along were wrestling and I wanted to join them -- it was so not fair that I had to be on a leash and Mollie and Murphy didn't! Anyways, I am feeling little tired now, so I think I will go and take a nap! Hope your Valentine's Day is as good as mine! And find me a forever home already!
Love, Chip xxxooo

Roosevelt Plays Ball

Here is our boy Roosevelt playing ball. He would really like to chase after the other dogs. The great news is, that he gets his cart from Eddie's Wheels on the 18th!! It'll take some training and rehab, but he'll soon be able to join in all the border collie games!

Duncan goes home

Hi all! This will be my last post as I now have my forever home! I wasn't sure what was going on today when my foster mom said "let's go for a ride!" I thought, oh now, not another vet visit! I love people but could stand not to see a vet for a while! Anyway, in the car we go for a pretty long ride. Longer than any I have ever taken! I didn't get sick this time as I normally get nervous riding in the car. You know, you never know where you are going to end up when you get into one of those things! (no, I don't have to wear that nasty collar any more!). When we arrived I made sure to put my scent everywhere outside, then I saw Brown Dog, I recognized him last week when some people came to visit me. Brown dog is cool, he's about my size and is a beagle cross. I know, he's not a border collie but I won't hold that against him! Then I got to meet Giggles, a bigger black and white border collie who is older and much more stoic. That's OK, Brown Dog and I will have lot's of fun romping around together!

We went into the house and I was terrified to go in because right away there were stairs that go up and stairs that go down. The ones that go down looked real scary as it was dark down there. After some persuasion, and patience from all the humans, I finally got up the courage to come in where I was lifted up to the main floor. (I'm still heeling you know)

After a little bit, there was one other family member I got to meet. He poked his head out a back bedroom door and looked a little unsure. Funnly looking dog if you ask me. I kept hearing the humans say he's a cat. Not sure what that is, but he seems pretty cool. I worked my charm and it didn't take long for the little guy to join in all the fun! (Something tells me he's the boss)
I feel so relaxed here. So now I figured out I have my forever home! Its been a very busy day for me. Thank you everyone for all your support through my foster and for helping me get better. I am not a hundred percent there yet, but I know my new mom and dad will make sure I am back to my old self soon enough! (Giggles happens to be very camera shy!)

Marsh is Adopted!!!

I got up this morning and thought it was just going to be another regular day in the life of a foster dog. But it turns out...I GOT ADOPTED!! My foster mom drove me to my new home nearby and a TREASURE HUNT of food and toys awaited me. Then, I got to take a walk and play frisbee with my Forever Mom and Dad. At some point my foster mom drove away, but I didn't notice. I will be an only dog so I can get ALL the attention and love. I am so lucky I'll get to swim, take hikes and walks, and watch the birds outside on my new deck.
So glad I waited a whole year for this perfect home!
Here I am with my new family:

The coolest thing was that it's my New Mom's birthday today...she said I was the best birthday present she ever got!
Signing off, Marsh (former foster dog)
